
Ithaka S+R | Researcher Challenges and Experiences with Data Services
« Research data services—support offerings which enable and improve data-intensive research—have garnered sustained attention from library research support service providers for nearly two decades.[1] Libraries have played a leading role in developing research data services, and on most university campuses they provide the largest and most diverse services.[2] In addition, because of research data services’ critical role in supporting research on college and university campuses across the country, they are also a central area of concern for stakeholders such as offices of research, campus IT, research computing, academic departments, and other units involved in the research enterprise.[3] As foundations and federal governments in both the US and Canada have increasingly promoted an Open Science agenda—characterized by high expectations for data management and data publication—the need to develop an efficient infrastructure of research data services has become an even more urgent strategic priority.
