Labor backs scholarly publishing with $12m
» THE Rudd government is promising to subsidise loss-making scholarly publishing with up to $12 million over three years to establish a new consortium with universities that would pool publishing infrastructure and marketing costs in a bid to boost output and distribute research more widely.
The consortium, to be known as Australian Universities Press, will need universities to stump up matching funding to participate. Innovation, Industry, Science and Research minister Kim Carr said the consortium could also be open to non-university scholarly publishers (…) «
