Open Access becomes normality – DEAL-Wiley agreement comes into effect on 1 July 2019
(…) On 1 July 2019, the DEAL agreement with Wiley will become fully effective.
The agreement provides members of the Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH) with online access to all Wiley journals. At the same time, it turns Open Access into the standard mode of publication for scientists and scholars in Germany. The agreed upon Publish&Read model is an innovation because it defines publishing – not reading – as the basis of financing scientific journals.
The agreement therefore represents an important step on the way toward a sustainable Open Access transformation. It sets signs for further negotiations with Elsevier and SpringerNature, but also for similar initiatives abroad.
The TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology is participating in the nationwide contract, which will initially run until December 2021.
Overview of the advantages for scientists at Leibniz Universität Hannover:
Read access
You can access Wiley’s entire journal portfolio. This currently comprises around 1,700 journals, including back issues.
Open Access publishing
From 1 July 2019, Open Access will be the standard for LUH authors who want to publish in Wiley hybrid journals. The TIB will cover the costs.
You can also continue to publish Open Access in Wiley’s genuine Open Access journals. You receive a 20 percent discount on the Article Processing Charges (APCs), but no invoice. Instead, the TIB will cover the costs. (…) »
