Beyond Journal Articles: Using PIDs and Metadata to Connect Research Teams, Outputs, and Projects in a Multidisciplinary Portfolio on Consciousness

« In today’s academic landscape, journal articles are the primary way researchers share their work. While essential, journals have limitations, especially in tracking the diverse range of outputs that research projects produce. Research funding bodies and institutions increasingly seek a comprehensive view of the entire research lifecycle, creating a demand for technology that can track all outputs.
Several projects, including the FAIR Workflows Project and Accelerating the Reach of Research on Consciousness (ARRC) explore how this demand can be met by connecting research through metadata, enabling Persistent Identifier (PID) Graphs. A technology still emerging, there are already some clear examples where PID Graphs can vastly improve access to research outputs, possibly even change the way that research literature is utilized.
