What are Controlled Vocabularies?
Controlled vocabularies are knowledge organization systems that contain (optionally) structured set of concepts/terms for organizing and classifying data in order to ensure its future access and retrieval. The concepts/terms are data descriptors related to each other via explicit relationships (hierarchical or associative). These data descriptors are used to distinguish and define the characteristics of knowledge resources in a specific domain.
