Putting the “U” in FAIR
The FAIR data movement has taught us all the value of Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable data. Within the research community, awareness of FAIR principles has grown from 15% in 2018 to more than 40% in 2025, according to The State of Open Data report by Figshare and Digital Science. Funder data mandates have flourished in recent years, and data repositories are full of permanently archived files. Yet, even in this proliferation of data, we should be asking for more.
